Replace touch panel unit

The touch screen of my printer became cracked after a box fell on it. For a month or two, things would still print from computer even though touch screen would not respond. Now the printer won’t turn on. Is it possible to buy a new touch panel and replace it at home without going through a retailer?

@samantharod5973 use the Brother L3770cdw Disassembly instructions. Page 57 deals with the Key PCB / Panel PCB / Touch panel ASSY / LCD Let's see if that gets your printer back to work.

@oldturkey03, thank you very much for the disassembly instructions! I will be needing to replace the touch panel as the cracked screen was no longer responding to touch and none of the touch functions worked. Is it best to just find a replacement part off of ebay?

@samantharod5973 that is exactly what I would do, if it would be my printer.

That's a bummer about your printer's touch screen! It sounds like the damage has progressed.

Regarding your question, yes, it is possible to buy a new touch panel unit for your Brother MFC-L3770CDW and replace it yourself at home.

Here's a general idea of the steps and things to consider:

  • Finding the Replacement Part: You'll need to search online for a replacement touch panel specifically for the Brother MFC-L3770CDW model. You can try searching on websites that sell printer parts or contacting Brother's support for part information. Be sure to get the correct part number to ensure compatibility.
  • DIY Repair Resources: Look for online tutorials or videos that might show how to disassemble your specific printer model and replace the touch panel. Sometimes, similar Brother models have comparable disassembly processes.
  • Technical Skills Required: Replacing the touch panel will likely involve some level of technical skill. You'll probably need to carefully disconnect and reconnect ribbon cables and other delicate components. If you're not comfortable with this type of work, it might be risky.
  • Potential Risks: Attempting a DIY repair could potentially void any remaining warranty on your printer. There's also a risk of further damaging the printer if not done correctly.

My recommendation would be to proceed with caution. While it's possible to do it yourself, carefully research the process beforehand and assess your comfort level with electronics repair. If you're unsure, contacting a local printer repair shop might be a safer option. They would be able to source the part and perform the replacement for you.
